Frida Give Away!!!

******

Time for Giving!!!!! :D
This is my first give away of this year
and that`s why it had to be a very special one!
So the lucky winner will have one of this lovely
Frida and Diego textile collages!!! (applauses)

The image measures 5 x 7 inches and is all hand made by me
with different fabrics, laces and papers.
All the black lines are black thread,
I draw with my sewing machine!
on top it says Frida and Diego with a heart between them both.
and you can choose the color combination of the Frida dress!
it`s one of my favorite pieces and it looks amazing in a frame
(as you can see in the 2nd photo) :D

Frida´s work is part of my inspiration,
I love her colors, her passion, her stories on each painting...
My favorite Frida painting is the one with the Two Fridas,
not only as a work of art is impressive,
(is a very big painting and I`ve had the pleasure to see it live!)
but the meaning of it... she painted it while was divorcing Diego
and to me the open heart in the white Frida
is a reflection on her sorrow,
her heart was bleeding but at the same time she was strong
and that`s why the 2nd Frida (on the right)
has her heart closed but still
holds a Diego small portrait in her hand...
and she held him forever in her heart...
no matter what.
It such a passionate story of the love of a woman
for a man that made her happy but also made her suffer...
two different feelings...
two different hearts...
two different Fridas...

All you have to do is leave  a message here with a link to your
favorite Frida painting
and tell me what is that you like of that painting.
Be expressive and let me really know
what is that inspires you from it,
(I would love to know!)
and if you post about this give away in your facebook or in your blog it will count
for a 2nd vote for you.
(if you post it in both you`ll have 2 extra votes)
(please send me also the link to this so I can verify it)

I will close the giveaway on Sunday 15th at midnight (Montreal time) and give the
results some time Monday afternoon.  I will write the names of of the participants
in pieces of paper and choose one randomly!
(all will be supervised by the very handsome cat Puccini so it is a fair draw) :D

So.... Good luck to you all!!!  (so exciting)

...............................

Es tiempo de dar un regalito!!!!! :D

(me encantarìa saber!)

Hi Norma, well you know I love anything Frida Kahlo!!!
My favorite painting of hers is 'The Two Fridas' or 'Las Dos Fridas'. Its beautiful and sad I love it! :)

Dolores said...

Self Portrait With Loose Hair is the Frida painting that I like.
http://www.artchive.com/artchive/K/kahlo/loose_hair.jpg.html

I think, because her hair is down, one really focuses more on her face and eyes. She is very beautiful in this painting. Frida appears relaxed and perhaps, free from pain.

Hi Cara,
I just love your work! I love Frida, she is my favorite artist, I love the symbolism and the honesty in her work. I love all of her paintings and I think it is really hard to pick just one. But I will pick "The Little Deer" She portrays herself as a deer letting us see her fragility. I love how she uses her head on the deer body, it makes it very clear that the painting is telling her story. Her body is full of arrows and the woods make a kind of cage around her. I seam likely she won't make it, there is a broken branch in front of her and lighting behind her. I think the branch on the ground represents a broken body, or spirit. But on one of the trees there seams to be a abstracted image of Jesus, which leads me to believe that there is always hope no matter how dire the situation. Sometimes I feel like what the deer represent, it is prey, hunted, scared, full of arrows that has sealed its doom. But it is also majestic, beautiful and graceful creature. This painting makes me sad but also gives me hope.
Have a great weekend.
Nicole

...well, my dear Norma, that's a very tough going, because I love the whole artistic production of Frida Kalo...so I'm going to commit my choice to the istinct and the heart, listening all the sensations and I say "The Four Inhabitants of Mexico City" (http://www.fridakahlofans.com/c0210.html), a shining example of surrealism...and then there is another reasons for my choice, it's been painted in November 1938, when my mum was born! :o)

Thanks for this generous chance, I'll keep my fingers crossed for it!
Hugs from Italy,
Antonella

I think I have to pick her earlier self-portrait, from 1926 when she was so young and her hair is down.

Cara Carmina said...

Aerides Designs: Thank you for participating!!!! :D nice pick! :D good luck!

I will post this comment sent to my e-mail from a girl in Portugal (TERESA MINGACHO) who send me this to my facebook because she could not post it in here for tech. reasons:

My favorite paiting of Frida is http://www.moma.org/collection_images/resized/317/w500h420/CRI_151317.jpg
Because, Here in this painting we can deeply her suffering she was dealing with the divorce with Diego. Cut her beautiful long hair, decided to dress a man's suit and giving the idea of being Diego himself, a profound heartbreak she's expressing... And with this painting she show to us how fragil women can be in this matter! That's really touching.. Like Frida!

Thanks again. Greetings from Portugal

I love her self portraits with monkeys. They are tender and comforting, unlike so much of her life. I like her use of symbolism and playfulness of 'Self-portrait with Thorn Necklace and Hummingbird'. It's a beautiful painting, I love it's aesthetic without commenting too literally on the painful things she went through.

Keep up the good work CC!
